100 teams have applied for the new season in the BBL championships

A total of 100 teams from all over Bulgaria applied for participation in the championships Bulgarian Basketball League in the 2023/2024 season. The deadline for this passed at the beginning of the week.

According to the planned development strategy of the BBL championships, the maximum number of participating teams in one division is 12. For this reason, the teams that had a representative in them this year also have priority, and new teams are on the waiting list.

Traditionally, the greatest interest is again in the West region, where, in addition to A and B, there is also a B group, and a total of 47 teams have applied in the three divisions. The South region follows with 23 teams, the East with 19, and the Center with 11. There is a separate registration for BBL Women.

By June 20, every club that has applied for the new BBL season must also pay a deposit guaranteeing participation.

A late turnaround puts Athlete 1959 in the West Region semifinals

Sportsman 1959 qualified for the semifinals in the West region of BBL A group. The team achieved a dramatic victory in the second match against Levski Sofia 2022 with 84:82 in the capital hall "Triad", thus closing the series 2-0. The winners trailed almost the entire game, including by double digits, but made a comeback at the end.

In the semi-finals Sportsman 1959 will have as opponent the winner of the pair The Fab Five – Balkan A, who will play a decisive third match.

After exchanging baskets at the start, the capital team took a slight advantage and after ten minutes of play led with 27:20. The productivity dropped drastically in the second period, and although the lead of the hosts briefly reached 16 points, at the break the difference was almost unchanged - 43:35.

The two teams continued to play with ebb and flow after the break. Levski Sofia 2022 again pulled with a double-digit lead, but on his turn Sportsman got as close as 3 and before the decisive quarter the team trailed 58:65. The pressure of the guests increased and four minutes before the end they achieved a complete turnaround - 74:73. Exchanges of leadership followed, and 25 seconds before the end, the capital team got the right to make a last attack with a point advance for its rival. This time, however, the hosts missed, and a free kick sealed the victory for the team of Emil Goranov.

Both teams were short-handed in this game. Boris Matrakov was top scorer for the winners with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Ivan Tsenov realized 19 points, with 15 is Gerasim Nikolov, and they added 11 each Simeon Tsenov (11 tackles) and Jimmy Hunt (7 assists).

For Levski Sofia 2022 Achilles Zikas was above all with 26 points. Christian Georgiev count to 18, Asen Popov there are 15 Martin Dimitrov has 12 points and 7 rebounds.

BULGARIAN BASKETBALL LEAGUE (BBL) is a national basketball league established in 2016. FROM 2020. In recent years, the League has become one of the largest team championships in Bulgaria.

BBL A group, and from 2022 and B group are included as official state championships to the Bulgarian Basketball Federation. Thus, basketball in Bulgaria acquired a complete pyramidal structure. The league is structured and takes place on a regional tournament basis in four regions - West, South, East and Center.

Miner 2015 qualified for the BBL A Group West Semi-Finals

Miner 2015 is the first team to advance to the semifinals in the West region of BBL A group. The team also won the second match with Enigma Fireworks in Triaditsa Hall, this time with 104:93. He was already at the head of the winners Georgi Mladenov, whose sentence has expired.

In the next phase Miner 2015 will have as an opponent the winner of the quarter-final between Sportsman 1959 and Levski Sofia 2022.

The team from Pernik led 7:0 at the start of the match, but after a very strong run Enigma drew with 12, and after ten minutes of play was ahead with 28:21. The visitors started to melt away their passive in the second period and although they equalized, there was no turning point, as they trailed 45:48 at the break.

Performance picked up significantly after the break. After multiple leadership changes, Miner 2015 took the initiative and led 80:71 before the last part. The team's lead became double digits in the remaining time, and until the end he maintained his leadership.

Boyan Tenev was top scorer for the winners with 23 points. He had a double-double of 21 points and 10 assists Milen Dudev, with 19 is Hristo Gatev. Georgi Burzakov scored 15 points, added 10 Konstantin Paisiev.

It was for the rival above all Victor Margaritov with 28 points, Kiril Raikov there are 20. Dear Paskov has 19 points and 9 assists, a Ivo Slavchev tallied 11 points and 14 rebounds.
